Which digital marketing channel should I start with?

For most ecommerce brands, start with the channel closest to your customer's purchase intent. Marketplace sellers should start with PPC Advertising (Amazon/Flipkart Sponsored) - it's in-session advertising targeting buyers already searching to buy. Brands with their own store should add Google Shopping and then Meta retargeting. Email automation (specifically abandoned cart) should be set up as early as possible - it has the highest ROI of any channel and requires minimal ongoing effort once configured.

Should I do paid ads or SEO first?

Paid ads first - they generate immediate revenue to fund operations while SEO builds in the background. Paid ads also generate keyword and product conversion data that informs your SEO priority. Once paid channels are profitable and generating consistent revenue, invest in SEO for long-term margin improvement. The two are complementary: paid ads for immediate revenue, SEO for compounding organic traffic over 12–18 months.

What is a realistic ROAS target for ecommerce ads?

ROAS benchmarks vary by channel and category. Amazon PPC: 3–8x (lower ACoS = higher ROAS). Google Shopping: 4–8x for established brands. Meta Ads (cold prospecting): 2–4x; Meta retargeting: 5–10x. TikTok Ads: 2–5x (lower CPMs offset lower intent). The right ROAS target depends on your margin - a 50% margin product needs different ROAS than a 20% margin product. We set ROAS floors based on your actual margin before launching.
